Saturday David Mornhinweg and I took a trip to Perl, Germany. Perl is in the Saarland state of Germany that boarders France and Luxembourg. It was an extremely beautiful drive from Stuttgart. If you do not know, Perl is the area that I feel the Lord leading me to as the place to start my ministry. The ride was about 3 hours and 200 miles from Stuttgart, so it is not a long drive or anything.
The picture at the top is a picture of the 2 churches that we saw. This one is an evangelical church, while the other is a Catholic church. The evangelical church was built in 1928. There was a sign outside the church, but the church was closed and no one was around so we could ask questions. As you can see it is a relativity small church.
At our first arrival into the city, we saw a building that had a cross on it. Thinking that this was a church, we parked and walked around the cemetery that was next to this building. As we walked closer to the building and looked inside through the windows, we then noticed that this was not a church but rather a funeral home.
The town is a nice small town filled with old buildings and new ones as well. The streets are your normal German street, small and narrow. And for such a small town it has lots to offer; in terms of shops and pleasure (with places to walk and ride a bike). One thing that I did notice that would be a help, and you might have figured this as well with it being on the boarder of France, in knowing French would be a plus, but I don't think that it would be a necessity at the very beginning.
The day we went to Perl, it along with the neighboring town in Luxembourg was having a festival of some type. So there were a lot of people there. Maybe more than if you were to go just whenever. So we did make a trip also into Luxembourg, this was basically just walking across a bridge because the Mosel River divides this area of Germany and Luxembourg.
We spent some time in Luxembourg looking at the different vendors, before returning to Germany and then returning home. This is definitely a place that I would like to visit again next year and spend more time there than just a day. Sunday afternoon, I went to the Church in Sindelfingen and shared with their youth group my heart for missions, Germany, and how the Lord is working in my life. Afterwords I we then went to a concert about 45 minutes away to hear Samuel Harfst, who is a Christian musician here in Germany. I have now started serving more with this church on Thursday and Friday afternoons in the 2 children programs that they have.
The IBC is also keeping me busy as the Children's Ministry prepares for VBS in the beginning of August and preparing things for this upcoming church year. I have also been involved in doing some other work around the church, such as painting and helping with some maintenance things.
I have tried to add more pictures of Perl to this blog, but the button that you use to upload them for some reason is not working for me anymore.
Please continue to pray as I only have a few more days left in Germany.
In Christ,
Tyler A. Bowman
